2nd place in batting average for three consecutive years

I was watching this Korean TV show, and a baseball player was on. His name is Sung-heon Hong (홍성흔) and he is one of the best hitters in Korea. He said he was runner-up in batting average for three years in a row, and claimed that it never happened even in the Major League. I got curious and checked if it were true.

Actually, it was not. Ted Williams did it in 1947, '48, and '49 (the winners were Harry Walker, Stan Musial, and George Kell, respectively) as well as Shoeless Joe Jackson in 1911, '12, and '13 (Ty Cobb won all three.)

I looked at other stats as well. In WAR position players, Hank Aaron (1959 to Ernie Banks, '60 to Willie Mays, '61 to Mickey Mantle), and few others were runner-ups for three years in a row. Lou Gehrig was runner up 6 times (1926, '27, '28, '30, '31, '35), thanks to Babe Ruth. Other unfortunate runner ups can be found in here when looking at Year-by-Year Top-Tens.
