David Robertson and Yankees 'pen

Caitlin Rogers of Pinstripe Alley wrote that Cashman's top priority is to bring Robertson back, according to Bill Madden of NY Daily News.

If you think about huge success of the Royals' trio this season (especially in the postseason) and of the Yankees with Mariano Rivera in the '90s, you would agree that it makes sense to bring Robertson back. Even though Betances had a great year and has enough potential to be an excellent closer, it's not about the ninth; who's going to pitch in the 8th inning as well as Betances did last year?

From Fangraphs' 2014 reliever team ranking, I took few columns.

Highlighted teams advanced to the postseason. While other teams had other reasons why they had successful seasons, the Yankees with poor offense and injured starting rotation had a winning season because of their relief pitchers, ranked t-1st in fwar. If Robertson was not on the team, without even considering other potential effects, the Yankees would have been ranked in the 9th. Still solid, but probably not good enough if the Yankees want even a slight chance of winning the World Series.
